2018 Intentions

Last year I had to take a lot of time to focus on myself. I learned I needed a whole other level of self-care I had lost sight of; one involving realistic and attainable expectations for myself. I learned I have to treat myself with kindness, patience & forgiveness. And then I had to take a giant step back from a lot of things to give myself the space to do so. I don’t usually buy into the New Year’s resolutions practice, but I’ve always loved the concept of a new year with new possibilities. Closing the book on one…

Jesse & Kelly Got Hitched!

Earlier this year, Jesse & Kelly took a trip to Scotland.  And while visiting Kelly’s ancestral lands, Jesse got on one knee and proposed (talk about an iconic proposal)! Then, with the help of family and friends, they planned a wedding in only a couple of months. Some may say that’s crazy, but… It. Was. Magical. An outdoor ceremony surrounded by the beauty of fall, the most loving family & friends, photos in what is now one of my favourite-ever locations, and a great night filled with delicious food and dancing. As far as weddings go, this was definitely one…

Antojitos Recipe

First round of cooking with Kat starts with something I’ve wanted to try for a while now: Antojitos!  James has been raving about them (specifically the ones from Montana’s) about as long as I’ve known him, but I only got on the bandwagon last year. I never disliked them, but they weren’t my first choice for an appetizer.  But then I had a particularly good order – crispy outside, slightly spicy, cheesy goodness. Yummmm. I realized this would be an easy thing to make at home; so I bought the ingredients and set out to make that as a lunch…

Handmade Wedding Gift

Last week I told you about our friend’s wedding, and the wedding shower gifts I made for them.  This time around I’ll be showing you the handmade gift I potted for them! I have been taking a pottery class for a few years now, and thought it might be fun to make a piece or two for Erica & Myles as a wedding gift.  Erica is a fellow creative, so I knew she would particularly appreciate something hand made. I was originally thinking a set of mugs, or maybe a serving tray.  I decided to sit on the idea until…

Fundraising for my Favourite Non-Profit

The Extend-a-Family program, a division of Access Better Living, offers recreational respite for children with special needs. I have been volunteering and working for Extend-a-Family for over 15 years now.  In 2015, I teamed up with them to offer a mini session fundraising event, as a pilot project.  The event was a great success, and we learned a few lessons that allowed us to up our game in 2016.  We moved locations, and named the event Urban Kids.  I could not have been happier with the changes we made, and of course agreed to bring the event back again this…

World Mental Health Day

World Mental Health Day is a great opportunity to open up those lines of discussion regarding the struggles so many people face on a daily basis. I wanted to mark this day with a site launch and a post, so here it is: Sharing your struggles: helpful or attention-seeking? I guess that’s the continuous discussion when it comes to social media sharing in general. What is too much? Where’s the line? How do you share an accurate portrait of your life without alienating people with the ugly? Does it really matter if you alienate people, if you’re being true to yourself?…

DIY Wedding Shower Gifts

This weekend our friends Erica & Myles tied the knot!  It was such an incredible day; a perfect reflection of who they are.  It was filled with genuine moments, and so much laughter.  Congratulations again my dear friends! ♥ Because their ceremony was very unconventional, I was asked to read A Lovely Love Story.  Erica said I could have some fun with it; we even joked about a puppet show.  So when I was out shopping with a friend a few days before the wedding and we stumbled upon a dinosaur onesie – it became very clear this needed to happen.  But…

So, what is this?

Two months ago I left my job.  I was working as a project manager for a web-design/jack-of-all-trades branding company. Essentially, I built websites and was the primary contact with clients. For the most part, I loved the work. But a combination of many things, including my strong desire to prove my unsustainable work ethic, my people pleasing tendencies and my ‘I can do it!’ attitude saw me take the fast lane straight into a full-blown burn out. I’m talking chest pains, anxiety, sleeplessness, headaches, etc. It was hell. So here I was… 28 years old, leaving my job without a…
